What The Role Is

The Manager Strategic Turbine Technology (Wind Turbines) is responsible for leading the wind turbine technology team at Clearway Energy Group, owning the strategic technology roadmap, technical project performance optimization, in support of securing the equipment needed to advance Clearway's multi-gigawatt project pipeline. The successful candidate will have demonstrated expertise in selecting, and evaluating turbines, for large scale wind projects. In addition, the candidate shall have experience in optimization and improvement of wind turbine performance and overall project economics. This position will develop and implement strategic turbine technology roadmaps, project level assessments of turbine performance, drive turbine performance and economic improvements, and provide technical expertise to the development business units, and manage the optimization processes from vendor selection through construction including addressing any turbine related quality issues. The role requires strong working knowledge of nearly all areas of turbine operations and technology across the entire lifecycle of a project. The Manager, Strategic Turbine Technology will contribute to supplier selections, integrating analysis of market and regulatory factors, and contributing to the achievement of Clearway's US domestic content and ESG goals.

This position will report to the Director, Strategic Procurement (wind) and can be based in San Francisco, CA, Houston, TX, or Scottsdale, AZ, offices with the option for remote work.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Manage technology assessments and reviews of existing and upcoming turbine platforms and repowering solutions, effectively communicate the opportunities and risks associated with each technology and communication with Turbine OEM on clearway future technology requirements.
  • Perform as an expert in all aspects of turbine technology, quality, and performance while supporting the business in providing technical knowledge to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Lead project turbine optimization and economic improvements thru value-added engineering partnership with key turbine suppliers.
  • Develop and create key turbine quality, inspection and qualification requirements and ensure compliance from turbine supplier thru the entire construction process.
  • Support Clearway's US domestic content growth strategy.
  • Contribute to the achievement of Clearway's ESG goals including supplier diversity and carbon reduction targets.
  • Maintain technical relationships with the major OEMs, managing multi-year and multi-project technology roadmaps and best-in-class turbine performance.
  • Assist with the project financing process, facilitating inputs from OEMs and interdisciplinary teams to independent engineering (IE) questions.
  • Assists with project construction issues related to turbines performance.
  • Support with supplier commercial discussion and agreements
  • Support internal updates and reporting of organizational and procurement progress and status.
  • Build relationships with internal colleagues in development, legal, engineering, construction, operations and maintenance, and asset management.
  • Maintain confidentiality and sensitivity with respect to all functions of DEI.
What You'll Bring
  • A Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Technical Degree and/or supply chain.
  • 7+ years of wind turbine engineering and performance management
  • Operation and maintenance experience
  • Strategic mindset
  • "Hands-on" Turbine OEM engineering experience
  • Ability to travel up to 15%
  • Experience in Turbine performance optimization and improvements
  • Experience leading people and working effectively across business functions
  • Experience in building Technology roadmaps and assessing turbine design and technology
  • Effective project management, performance engineering, risk management, data analysis, and interpersonal communication skills

What Would Be Nice
  • Master's degree in related technical field highly preferred.
  • Familiarity with procurement systems including SAP and Coupa is preferred

The pay rate for the successful candidate will depend on geographic location, skills, relevant and demonstrated experience, education, training and certifications, and other factors permitted by law. This role is eligible to earn an annual cash bonus, subject to personal and company performance goals.

Salary Range Across all U.S. Locations
$154,000$184,000 USD
