Job Summary

This position is scheduled to begin August 2024. Facilitates and instructs a diverse student population primarily in the Construction Trades program and some Construction Management classes using innovative teaching and learning techniques. Advises students of Construction trades and maintains academic support/office hours. Develops Construction Trades curriculum using traditional and non traditional teaching methods of instruction. Maintains professional competence, maintains construction trades laboratory facilities and equipment. Assists in the development of budgets, as well as orders equipment and supplies. Develops and maintains strong relationships with local construction sector industries,and other colleges within the District to pursue internship and scholarships, recruit students, and assist in the placement of graduates. Helps with recruiting selected advisory committee members for annual and ongoing meetings.

Essential Functions
  • The primary focus of this new residential faculty position is to teach the mechanical trades (MPE) trades such as electrical, HVAC and plumbing.
  • Facilitates and instructs a diverse population of students in a classroom and construction laboratory setting.
  • Develops written syllabi/course outlines and course materials that reside on the campus learning management system (Canvas).
  • Additional duties and functions include maintaining the learning environment space and laboratory equipment.
  • Strong emphasis on students using P.P.E while in the lab and observing all OSHA standards and guidelines.
  • This position will be required to maintain and make repairs to equipment as needed.
  • Promotes construction trades and management programs and classes and recruits students. Participate in curriculum changes and stay current with technology.
  • Develops and enhances knowledge of subject matter taught and individual training skills required to remain current with new trends and developments in the construction trades sector.
  • Promote internship and scholarship of teaching and learning through attendance at conferences, related courses, seminars, and workshops for professional development.
  • Maintains academic teaching, office hours to assist students in addition to recruit prospective, and continuing students within the program.
  • Engages in the academic life of the college by participating in both campus and District-wide and committees. Participates in the Industry Collaborative system (ISC) meetings with other campuses.


Minimum Qualifications

The Occupational Teaching Fields require the following from an accredited college or university:

  • A Master's degree in the teaching field OR
  • A Master's degree in any field with 18 graduate credits in the teaching field OR
  • A Master's degree in any field with a combination of 24 upper division and/or graduate credits in the teaching field (Upper-division courses are Junior and Senior level courses in obtaining a Bachelor's degree) OR
  • A Bachelor's degree and three years of occupational experience in the field to be taught OR

  • Five years of occupational experience in the field to be taught OR
  • A Journeyman certification in the field to be taught

    Desired Qualifications

    1. Previous teaching experience in the Construction Management and/or Construction Trades programs

    2. Five (5) years or more teaching the mechanical trades

    3. OSHA 30 Certification

    4. Holds current licenses/certifications in two or more mechanical content areas: electrical, plumbing, H.V.A.C.

    Special Working Conditions

    Travel: May be required to work or participate at multiple Maricopa District sites, Industry training sites or locations with some local travel required

    MCC Construction Trades does have both an exterior, construction zone and indoor lab facilities for teaching students.

    Work Schedule Varies: May be required to work evenings (after 4 - 10 pm) and weekends

    Lifting: i.e. May be required to lift or carry up to 25lbs.

    Computer: i.e. May be required to sit for a prolonged period of time, viewing a computer monitor

    Hazardous Materials: May be exposed to hazardous chemicals

    Climbing : Climbing stairs and/or ladders to reach assigned areas along with working at heights.

    Temperature: Work outdoors in a variety of temperatures and environmental conditions

    Noise: Will be required to work in an area of light to heavy noise levels daily
