The Role

The Research Chemist II will work closely with the Thin Film Senior Research Chemist and Product Development Manager to source, purify and analyze advanced precursors, develop new methods of analysis and purification, and support various product development and production tasks.

Key responsibilities for this role include:

    Perform various research and development tasks in a chemical and analytical laboratory
  • Safely handle various chemicals with various physical and health hazards
  • Purify new products using treatment, distillation, and sublimation techniques, assemble purification equipment, identify product impurities using GC and GCMS
  • Develop methods to improve product purity and analysis, identify product stability issues, and determine ways to improve product stability.
  • Perform shelf-life testing by sampling and analyzing liquid chemicals
  • Assist with customer requests for product quality data and prepare technical reports
  • Determine raw material quality, interact with vendors to improve quality, and track quality metrics to maintain stability of raw material supply
  • Identify raw material suppliers and order raw materials
  • Work closely with the Product Develop Manager and Production Manager to support various product development and production tasks.
  • Assist the TFS Engineering and Production managers with installation, design, and setup of production and R&D tools.
  • Operate, maintain and repair analytical and laboratory equipment and instrumentation
  • Create safety documents, submit documentation for safety approval
  • Clean glassware, laboratory surfaces and equipment

REQUIREMENTS

  • Master's degree in chemistry and 2 years of commercial experience with chemical purification and analysis in a laboratory, or Bachelor's degree in Chemistry with 4 years of commercial experience with chemical purification and analysis in a laboratory
  • Experience with the operation, maintenance and repair of analytical instruments, including GC and GCMS, and knowledge of identifying molecules using MS signatures
  • Experience with purification and analysis of advanced liquid precursors using Schlenk techniques
  • Ability to generate and support the submission of customer white papers.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal direction
  • Ability to work in a research and development and cleanroom analytical laboratories
  • Ability to work well with other departments, customers, and co-workers in a courteous and professional manner
  • Ability to travel to domestic or international locations, meet with development partners, suppliers and customers, and make technical presentations
  • Ability to prepare and present technical presentations and reports
  • This is a safety-sensitive position that requires candidates to successfully pass a post-offer drug screening prior to employment. One of the essential job functions is the ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
