Job Summary

This position provides college-wide direction and management of facilities planning and assigned maintenance operations and auxiliary services for GateWay Community College (GWCC) and its campuses.

Essential Functions

30% Provides management of facilities and grounds for multiple sites; managing, planning and administering operations; plans, organizes, assigns, prioritizes, supervises, reviews and evaluates the work of managers and staff; provides technical direction to facility sites; serves as the maintenance liaison for the main Washington campus as well as the rest of the satellite campuses; manages outsourced contracts such as custodial services and surplus property disposal; exercises accountability for function activity and related decisions

30% Develops, plans and initiates physical maintenance and repair projects; oversees building and grounds remodeling and major maintenance projects and will be responsible for leading a team that coordinates these projects; provides input into the tactical, strategic and long range master planning; administers competitive bidding process to solicit quotes for projects; coordinates construction activity with District staff and contractors; serves as liaison with architects, engineers, contractors and vendors; represents the assigned department or District function to the public, other agencies and partners; responds to/resolves difficult or complex inquiries and complaints

15% Oversees the development and implementation of programs, policies and procedures; develops and coordinates preventative maintenance program and activities, energy conservation and training programs and maintains compliance with applicable codes and regulations; evaluates, modifies and implements work practices for maximum efficiency

15% Prepares, manages and administers multiple budgets; monitors and approves expenditures; administers and oversees contracts and procurement activities; serves as knowledge expert in area of assignment, overseeing, reviewing and providing analyses and recommendations regarding function-specific and district-wide issues; attends, convenes and/or facilitates meetings

10% Participates on college committees; other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited institution in engineering, architecture, construction management or related field, six (6) years of progressively responsible facilities planning, maintenance and operations experience which includes two (2) years of management and supervisory experience in public facilities management.

OR

.Associate's Degree from a regionally accredited institution in engineering, architecture, construction management or related field, eight (8) years of progressively responsible facilities planning, maintenance and operations experience which includes two (2) years of management and supervisory experience in public facilities management.

OR

High School diploma/ GED and ten (10) years of progressively responsible facilities planning, maintenance and operations experience which includes two (2) years of management and supervisory experience in public facilities management.

Desired Qualifications
  1. Three (3) or more years experience as a facility director/manager overseeing a multi-site and multi-building operation
  2. Knowledge of building codes, safety codes, OSHA, ADA, etc.
  3. Experience developing/assisting/managing capital development programs, new construction, remodeling projects
  4. Experience solely managing small remodeling/maintenance projects
  5. Experience with central chiller plant-operations and maintenance
  6. Experience implementing and managing a preventive maintenance program
  7. Experience using a computerized maintenance management system/computerized work order system
  8. Experience managing outsourced contracts such as custodial services


Special Working Conditions
  • Will be required to travel or be assigned to all GateWay locations
  • May require some evenings or weekends
  • May require prolonged periods of viewing a computer screen
  • May be required to lift or carry up to 50 lbs
  • Possession of a valid State of Arizona Class D driver's license is required; must meet minimum standards regarding driving:
  • May be exposed to hazardous chemicals
  • Climbing stairs and/or ladders to reach assigned areas along with working at heights
  • Work outdoors in a variety of temperatures and environmental conditions
  • Will be required to work in an area of light to heavy noise levels daily
  • MCCCD does not sponsor individuals for any type of work visas
