The University of Arizona Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program-Education (SNAP-Ed) supports the health and well-being of families in communities with low access to resources to make healthy changes in homes and neighborhoods. From local gardens in the community, to working with children's schools to create healthy environments, SNAP-Ed provides families opportunities to be active and healthy their way. (Funding comes from the Federal Government through Arizona Department of Health Services' AZ Health Zone.) The University of Arizona Maricopa County Cooperative Extension provides services to 5 communities in Maricopa County. The Community Outreach Professional I position will work in the Maryvale (West Phoenix) area. This position will work at school sites and after school programs to engage students, parents, teachers and administration to develop interventions that improve nutrition and physical activity practices. This includes, but is not limited to staff development, establishing wellness committees, food pantry program, identify opportunities for school gardens, Local Wellness Policy revision and communication among others.

• Engage with school district leadership, school boards, principals, teachers, administrative personnel, parents, students and community members to develop projects that improve nutrition and physical activity Policies, Systems and Environment.
• Coordinate efforts to implement the Smarter Lunchrooms Movement in cafeterias and collaborate with schools to improve physical activity practices. Establish wellness committees, food pantries, staff development trainings, identify and support opportunities for school gardens and support the revision and implementation of Local Wellness Policies.
• Coordinate trainings, education, and events for a variety of sites in the Maryvale area.
• Conduct research and meet grant requirements, data collection, and reporting (SARN, SEEDS, Collection Summaries) for area of responsibility. Other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements and Environmental Demands:

• Employee is frequently required to lift/move/transport a certain amount of weight.
• Employee may have to perform work outdoors and may not be protected from weather conditions.

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through experience required.
• 1 year of relevant work experience may be required.
• Must have a reliable personal vehicle.
