Job Summary

This is a one-year-only position anticipated to start August 2024 through May 2025. Instructs students from diverse backgrounds and/or cultures in Psychology courses (in classrooms, labs or online). Keeps records of student grades, and prepares exams; provides leadership in infusing diversity and integrating appropriate teaching techniques; reviews and develops curriculum. Uses appropriate technologies and online instructional tools for on campus and online instruction; serves on college-wide and district-wide committees; participates in educational and governance related activities in the discipline, department, college and district. Demonstrates a commitment to service excellence, innovation, student success, integrity, and diversity in the performance of job duties.

Essential Functions

50% - Instruct students and assess student learning;

15% - Maintain appropriate academic support hours and interact with students outside of class time;

15% - Review, revise, and develop curriculum;

10% - Engage in the academic life of the college by participating in department, college and/or district committees and activities;

10% - Pursue professional development to advance knowledge within discipline and promote the scholarship of teaching and learning.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree (or higher) in any of the following areas within the Psychology field of study: Psychology, or a degree granted by a Psychology Department, or a degree which contains the word Psychology. Examples: Educational Psychology, Counseling Psychology, School Psychology.

OR

Master's degree in any field with 18 graduate-level credits in these prefixes/subjects: PSY, PSYC, PSYCH

Desired Qualifications

A. PhD in Psychology

B. Experience teaching at least 10 sections of General Psychology

C. Experience teaching a high school population

D. Experience teaching and designing on-line courses in higher education

E. Experience teaching in an environment that fosters teamwork

F. Experience teaching a diverse student population

G. Industry experience (Psychology, non-teaching)

Special Working Conditions
  • May be required to travel or be assigned to all GateWay locations
  • May require some evenings or weekends and summers
  • Assignment may extend past the normal academic semesters
  • May require prolonged periods of viewing a computer screen
  • May require lifting objects weighing up to 25lbs
  • Travel to campus during the interview/selection process will be at the candidate's own expense
  • MCCCD does not sponsor individuals for any type of work visas
